Sunday May 17

Halfway through May and plenty to talk about. Recaps of the week's play and another entry from our look back to 2022 series plus a special Bud's Boys mystery story. Stay tuned for that.

But first, an interesting fun with numbers to start the day.

Fun with Numbers - May 6 through May 15

We have played 7 rounds in May. Would you believe;

The group is a combined +137 for the month.

We have had individual scores of +10, two +8's, four +7's, and six +6's. Many 5's and 4's.

Of the 25 individuals who have played at least twice this month, five players have improved 1 point, TEN have improved 2 points, and one has improved 4 POINTS (Roger, who shares a tip with Rick).

Only two players have dropped a point.

Teamwise, up until May, it was not unusual for a minus score to win the Front 9. So far this month we have had a +10, a +9, a pair of 7.5's and a minimum of +3 to win the Front.

The Back 9 has had a +13, a +10, and a couple +8.5's. A minimum of 5.5 to win the Back 9.

The Total score has reached +16, an 11 and a 10 has also won.

The best round, however, was this past Friday when a pair of +12's lost out to a +13.
One team went +4.5, +7.5, +12 and won nothing.

Have some people finally found their games? Or are they just borrowing someone else's?

Someone please explain to me.

Oh, one more nugget.

Randy (7), Scott (5), Floyd (4), and Ray (3) have played a combined 19 rounds and have won zilch, nada, nil, nothing but all zeroes on the ledger. I suggest we be separated next week to give us some better odds to win. By the way, Tom has won $80 in his 7 rounds this month.

Tuesday May 12

A large group of 22 BB's played some plus golf in great weather conditions. Dean Medals with a +7.

Charlie wins the CTP and cards a +6. Tom shoots an even par 36 points.

Raymond returns from an extended vacation trip.

Wednesday May 13

More high scoring, Butch has a +7 to best the other 20 BB's.

Raymond takes the CTP and teams with Rick (remember the tip from Roger) and Tom to win the Front with a +10 and dominate the card game (four 5's to win) to win 3 events.

Thursday May 14

Light number with some of the Boys at PB for a Senior event.

Bill F stands out with a double jump +8 to win Medalist Honors. He caps the day by greedily taking the CTP also.

Allen (+5), Norris (+6), and Roger (+5) shoot a +13 Back 9 and a +16 Total for two victories.

Friday May 15

A shootout at the OK(imbeland) Corral as a +13 takes down a pair of +12's. Check the box score for the impressive scores.

Doc has our second double jump of the week with a +8.

The Curious Case of BZ, or, Is there Really Life out There?

Our mystery starts near the end of March, when news of the release of the UFO files by our government is hitting the news channels. The main character of our story, we will call him Butch, is coming off a 32-point, +8 performance to move his handicap number to 26 on March 24th and has a normal let down the next day to put his number at 25. What happens next begged an investigation. Let's look at the facts.

Butch disappears for a week and returns with a minus 4, down to 24.
A -9 on the 9th, down to 23.
Minus 6 on the 10th, down to 22.
Minus 5 on the 11th, down to 21.

Also troubling was Butch's behavior. He seemed congenial, almost nice. What's going on?

Minus 4 on the 17th, down to 20. Doesn't seem to care.
Minus 3 on the 23rd, down to 19. Where is the real Butch?

The story takes a turn on April 30th. Butch shows up and immediately starts picking at his favorite targets, annoying others, and being more his normal self. His antics on the first tee confirms to me that this is the Butch I remember.

Sure enough, he shoots a +6, up to 20.
A +5 on the 12th, up to 21.
A +7 on the 13th, up to 22.

This inquiring mind started looking back at some of the photos on the blog.
This is Butch from this week.

Now compare with one from the 'dark days' in April.

Here is where I zoomed in on the picture. Look closer.

I KNEW IT. You had to look close, but something was funny. Was Butch abducted and replaced by an Alien while they examined, probably probed, and otherwise just wondered at his being before returning him on the 30th?

I have always been unsure of life from other planets, but maybe the UFO files will explain the BZ mystery in the coming weeks.

Or perhaps Roger just gave him a tip cure his crappy game.

Update on Rodney

Leroy texted Saturday that Rodney is doing better. He has been walking and exercising. Probably another 2 weeks in rehab. All the best to Rodney and Jan.

Back to 2022

Coincidentally, this issue from 2022 deals with Rodney returning to the course. Hope history repeats itself later this year.

May 2022

Long time, no see everyone. Nearly a week since our last visit to Kimbeland. A lot to cover so let's get started.

Medical Updates

Rodney back on the course today.

Played 18 holes, accumulated 23 points, yet didn't hit a single good shot (in his view). Actually, he hit several good shots, he just had a little trouble on the greens like the rest of us. Held up better than me in today's heat, hopes to be back Thursday. Great to have him back.

Mark Roger News

Texted with Roger this evening, here are some of his comments.

I mentioned Rodney played today and he responded.

Great news that his recovery is off to a good start.

Announcements

Next Tuesday Only (5-17), Our Tee Times Will Start at 8:30!!

A little trouble this morning on the tee sheets left us with this option only. I truly hope this doesn't become an everyday issue.

Tuesday Play

A very large group enjoyed the driest conditions we have had lately, albeit in 90-degree weather. Consistent play in that no team was more than plus or minus 3 on either side. Raymond's Medal winning +7 and Glen's most points 32 led their team to 2 of 4 events. Andy's tee shot to a couple feet on 18 takes CTP. Good rounds turned in by Westy, Bob, Leroy and Jeff as they scored +3 or better. Double Birdie on 8 by Westy and Leroy. Cheers!

We need a little relief from a tough last week. Here is my attempt at levity.

Back in my younger days, I often heard this saying. "Whiskey on beer, you're in the clear. Beer on whiskey, mighty risky." This saying came to mind when I saw this post from Billie Jo.

If you can't read the fine print, she says nothing better than a hot dog at the turn.
Norm would like to add this. "Fireball before hot dog, not a good idea. Fireball after hot dog, you have a chance to finish the round. Thank you very much."

Tiger, Tiger, Tiger

This was sent to me, and I would like to share because I also thought this year's Masters was a little too much Tiger. Connor Moore also thought so and here is his take on the 2022 Masters.
