 Hanlon Has It! Bingo Concludes

Bill H made the 'Golden Putt' Thursday on hole number 10 to cover all the spaces on the Deuces Bingo Card. This ends the closest finish in Bingo history as the other teams fell one hole short.

The winner's ceremony and prize acceptance will be Tuesday August 4th. Mark your calendars.

A couple of inches kept the game from being a 3-way tie as the Quints and the Zeroes had winning putts just miss.

The Quints were close to bringing #2 home, but the shark had other ideas.

A missed 3-footer on #10 left the Zeroes '1' short (get it, they have the Zero but needed a 1, oh never mind) of from completing their task. A great comeback, nevertheless, as the 0's were well back at the halfway mark.

Now, a deep dive into the Bingo game. The following numbers include golfers not on a Bingo team.

The game started on June 30th and ended on July 23 with 11 actual days of play completed. 193 rounds were played with 24 different golfers holing a birdie. This means each hole was played 193 times with the exception of #12 which switched to a par 4 late in the contest. 

142 birdies were carded, about 13 per round. Tom had 21 of those, Glen 17. Bill H (11) and Randy (10) reached the 10 plateau as well. Ten other players were between 5 and 9 birdies.

Bud's Boys News Update - Wear Yellow

This Wednesday, July 29, wear your yellow as we celebrate one of the greats of the game who is known for wearing yellow on the course.

Of course, we are talking about Leroy and his birthday bash. Again, mark your calendars.

Scoring Update: +6?

We had 7 golfers reach +6 or better this week which raised the question of bringing back the +6 double jump. This being a quite serious consideration, I thought it only right to seriously determine the controversial decision. I flipped a coin, +6 is back. Double jumpers beware! 

Tuesday 7/21

Westy makes a rare appearance makes the most of it with a Medalist best +7, leading his team to 2 wins.

Bill H. earns the CTP and his birdie on 7 wins the Random Skin.

Weds 7/22

Ron's CTP prevents the Royal Flush.

Randy, Don, and Roger sweep the FBT and their 12 cards are twice as many as the nearest competitors. The Full House they turned was overkill as they win the Card Game.

Scott's +6 ties for Medalist.

Thursday 7/23

A rarity as the 5 events are split between 5 different teams.

Glen's +5 wins Medalist, a point better than Charlie and Roger.

Randy wins the CTP.

Friday 7/24

In poker, a 'Bad Beat' is when you have a great hand but still lose.

It wasn't Card Game Day for Bud's Boys, but the team of Glen, Doc, and Leroy (+7 co-Medalist) took a bad beat. Their +10 on the Back 9 and +11 Total would win on most days, but not today.

Seems a team with TWO +7's and a +6 are hard to overcome.

Butch +7, Allen +7, and Tom +6 push team to a +4, +15!, +19! FBT sweep.

Tom's birdie on #7 and Allen's birdie on #9 also takes the Rabbit game.

The fourth member of the team, Clint, wins the Ringo Starr 'Lucky Man' award. A mediocre performance (-1) grouped with 3 talented players shares the money anyway.

Don stops a Royal Flush by winning the CTP.

Bingo Deep Dive

I think it is important to remember that the stats here are holes easiest or hardest to birdie, not necessarily easiest or hardest to score. You will see what I mean later.

How many of you chose #11 as the easiest? It was by far. It's 19 birdies are 6 better than #13, with coincidentally 13 birdies.

After #13 comes #4 and #16, with 12 each. 

Next easiest is our CTP finishing hole #18 with 11.

Surprising to me is our next, #9 with 10 birdies.

#3 and #12 tie with 9 birds each. Of course, #12 would have had more had it stayed a par 3.

We close out the easiest first 9 holes with #7 with 8, though the Zeroes failed to birdie until the last day.

On to the hardest nine though we will continue to go in reverse order.

Another surprise to me is hole number 5 coming this soon. Previous Bingos showed it to be more challenging. Hole number 8 ties number 5 with 7 birdies.

Hole 15 has been a last hole winner in the past, it ranks 7th toughest this year with 6.

A three-way tie is next. Holes #2, #14, and #17 with 5 each. Number 17 doesn't seem to fit here but I sure couldn't handle it.

Now the big surprise. The third toughest hole to birdie was hole number 1. Only 4 birdies in the 193 attempts with an extra drive available if needed. Here is where I say #1 wasn't the 3rd hardest hole, but it sure was hard to birdie over the 11 days.

Second hardest is #6 with only 3 birdies, one for each team.

Obviously, with two teams gunning for it, number 10 was the toughest with only 2. Hard to believe that Butch's birdie there on July 2nd would be the only one until the 23rd. Let the unofficial record show that Ron birdied the hole on one of our washout days. I think Bill H did the same.
