 May Day! Another Month Gone!

Bud's Boys play in the month of May ended on Thursday. Full review in today's edition along with box scores of the 3 days we did play. An explanation of our new tiebreaker system as well. But first, an observation.

I walked into Academy Sports on Friday with the better half who was looking for a new pair of athletic shoes. Normally, I would wander over to the golf section to kill some time. Today, however, I found it more age appropriate to visit this section.

Didn't purchase anything but put a few things on my 'may need later' list.

May Review

We were allowed 14 days of play, same as 2025. We had 33 different BB's sign in to play 244 rounds of golf, an average of 17 per day.

Tom was the leading money winner with a net of $44. Norris $27, Glen $22, and Bill F $20 were distant followers.

Clint made a big jump in the CTP race with 3 this month. Tom was the only other player with more than 1 with his 2 victories.

Medalist honors had three 2-time winners. Butch, Bill F, and Bill H had 2 per man but the Bills 2 were all on the Money paying day of Thursday. Never fear Butch, your accomplishment was just as impressive if not financially beneficial.

In the yearlong CTP contest, Glen, despite zero May CTP's, still has a comfortable lead over the rest of the pack. His 11 leads the 6 from Tom and Randy and 5 from Raymond, Clint, and Wayne.

Clint has earned the most Medals with 9. Glen 7, Ray 6, Scott 5, Jeff 5, and Butch 5 are in reach.

Tiebreakers

If the Front is tied, start at 9 and work backwards scorecard playoff with 1 score per team. If against all odds it is still tied after working back to #1, start over taking 2 scores.

Same on the Back 9 except start on 18 and end on 10.

If Thursday Medalist is a tie, use the top score to start the playoff.
Example: Three teams each have a player at +5. The playoff starts at 5 and goes backward through all 18 holes. Plus 3 starts at 3, plus 8 starts at 8 etc. Use all players on the team, not just the Medalist players since it is a team victory.

The Total tiebreaker worries me since it involves a little awareness from somebody in the group. If the Total score is a tie, we use the date to start the playoff. This Tuesday, the 2nd of June, would have a playoff starting at hole #2 and work backward through all 18 holes.

Is there anyone out there who is thinking, "Wait, what about the 19th through the end of the month?"

Good question. Simple answer. Add the 2 digits and start there. The 19th would start on 10, the 23rd would start on 5 and so on. It has been suggested to me that someone other than Jackson graduates do the math. Not sure if that person was kidding me or not but there it is.

Don't lose any sleep over anything written above. Whoever is running the show that day can do whatever they want. Split it, give it all back, or donate it to Little Sisters of the Poor. We are flexible in or rules if not so much with our bodies.

Tuesday May 26

I believe we have an answer to the question of the high scoring this month. Today, along with Wednesday and Thursday, saw scores plummet as the week progressed. The minus 1 posted by the group on May 8th was the only minus posting until today. A modest minus 7 today was followed by minus 32 on Weds. and minus 44 on Thursday. What changed? THE COURSE CONDITIONS!

The wet weather started last weekend, and the course got wetter and wetter (and longer and longer) and we suddenly were not getting that extra 10, 20, 30-yard rollouts. Longer shots to the green and tougher conditions for chipping and putting from off the green all contributed. In my opinion.

Butch is the only player to move up as his lone +3 earns today's Medal. His team takes the Back 9 and Total.

Randy wins the CTP and Raymond's birdie on #18 wins the Skin.

Wednesday May 27

Clint (80) and Floyd (75) threw a big birthday bash on Wednesday. CTP prizes on all par 3's, food and drink at the end. Let's look at the partygoers.

Clint presents four sleeves of still in wrapping Top Flite 3000's (from the 80's?) to Westy for his shot on #18.

Allen, who had a hole-in-one in the Holiday Tournament Monday, couldn't stay for the party, but bought a bucket of beer for the birthday boys. I hope no one was driving when they read this.

Prize winners: Glen #4, Randy #6 and #8, Roger #12, and Westy #18.

In the Regular Wednesday Card Game, the birthday boys cleaned up.

Clint won the main CTP contest, and with help from Floyd and Tom won the Card Game with a Spade Flush. They also won the Total to give them 3 of the 5 events.

Scott was Medalist at +5, his team wins the Front 9.

Raymond's team earned 1 card and sure made the most out of it.

Thursday May 28

A very friendly game today as all 4 teams won an event. The team that was -17 on the Front 9 (-22 Total) won a piece of the prize money when Ed wins his first ever BB's CTP.

The team who scored a -17 Total wins when their only player who had game wins the Thursday Medalist Honor. That would be Bill H who obviously did not run out of snacks.
