Sun Sets on September
October has arrived. Less than 3 months to go in 2025. As Leroy likes to say, "Let's finish strong!"
A look at the 3 days of play this week along with a short review of September. Also, a short statement on the small tweak in our handicaps.
Tuesday September 30
A near full house of 23 in action on Random Skin Tuesday.
Clint is the Medalist of the day with a +6 and Brandon gets the CTP.
Tom's 2-putt birdie on #3 wins the Skin.
Wednesday Oct 1
Tom wins the CTP while Randy, Don, and Scott take 3 1/2 of the remaining 4 events when their flush tops Roger's small straight in the Card Game.
Brandon takes some mud splatter when trying to escape the pond on #6.
Thursday October 2
We have a three-way tie for Medalist honors. Tom, Don, and KZ lead the field with +3's.
Glen adds another CTP to his 2025 golf resume.
September Review
We played 16 days, 14 regular and 2 tournament days with 31 players getting 300 rounds in.
Scott ($119) and Glen ($108) each exceed the $100 mark this month.
They also have the more important best net take with Scott's +49 and Glen's +38. Tom was +27 and Floyd +22.
Scott, Floyd, and Don had the best day with a $26 a-piece take on Sept 12.
Best score of the month goes to Wayne and Bill H's +8's.
Charlie and Bill F. have best one day point total with 38. Tom and Glen have 37's.
Leroy, Doc, Charlie, and Glen have 2 September CTP's.
Randy, Norris, Wayne, and Ray are multiple Medalist winners with 2.
The best team score this month was a modest +12.
The worst score to get a victory was a minus 4 1/2 Front 9 on 9/25.
The unchallenged mark of futility was reached on September 2nd when Randy, Don, KZ, and Clint posted a -17 1/2 score on the Front 9. That they rallied for a 15-point improvement on the Back 9 to keep their Total to only -20 speaks volumes of their 'never give up' character.
Brandon joins the Champion Golfer of the Year club.
Winter Scoring Update
We are tweaking our daily handicaps. Starting this week, it will take a +3 or better to move up and a -3 or worse to move down. It will take a +8 to double jump. We will maintain the standard of no double drops in order to keep our carts relatively clean from sand.
This is all you really need to know, but if basic math doesn't make your head hurt, you may read on to see the process.
Old system is a 4-round average. Example: A 20-point average is 80 points for 4 rounds. A new score of 22 moves you to 82 points. 82 divided by 4 = 20.5 rounded up to 21. A new score of 18 moves you to 78, divided by 4 = 19.5 rounded down to 19. Thus plus 2 and minus 2 is the standard. The +6 puts you at 86, divided by 4 = 21.5 rounded to 22. Easy peasy.
New System is 5 round average. Same example of 20 hcp (100 points/ 5 rounds). It takes a 23 to move up. 103 divided by 5 = 20.6 rounded up to 21. A 17 moves you down (97 divided by 5 = 19.4). It takes a +8 to double jump. 108/5 = 21.6.
