 Bud's Boys August Swan Song

Results from Thursday and Friday, a big review of August results, and a few words about our 4th 'Champion Golfer of the Year' tournament coming up this coming month. Settle in and waste a few minutes reading about the antics of some very questionable looking old coots.

Thursday August 28

Medalist Day brought the best out of a Mickey Mouse handful (that's 4 for those who don't remember their childhood) of Bud's Boys this Thursday.

Jeff came through with a near double jump +5. Allen did double jump with a +6.

Glen scores 40 points to earn his +6.

Not to be outdone, Leroy takes the day's prize with a tidy +9. Despite bogeys on #1 and # 18, Leroy pars 15 of the 16 holes in between for a 33-point performance. Throw in teammate Jeff's previously mentioned score and Scott's +1 and you have this threesome winning 4 of today's 5 events, a $72 split.

Ron prevents the Royal Flush with his third CTP of the season.

Friday August 29

The 6 tee times were completely filled as 24 BB's came out for the last day of play in August.

Four of the six teams managed a slice of the prize pie.

Keith's Medalist best +7 was enough to lead his team to victory on the Front 9 and the Total.

Marty's +6 wasn't enough for his team to win anything, but his cozy shot on #18 did win the CTP.

Randy's birdie on #15 snared a long running Rabbit for his squad.

The most interesting, in my opinion, was the way Don, Leroy, Roger, and Clint, the last group on the course, took the last event, the Back 9. They came to the 18th tee box needing 10 points just to reach their quota of 55 points. Since they were only averaging 6 points a hole to this point, it seemed a bit out of their realm of possibility.

Laughingly, one said, "All we need are 2 birdies and 2 pars, no big deal."

Lo and behold, Don and Clint dropped the birdies while Roger and Leroy came through with the pars to give them a team score of Even. Little did they know that the leader in the clubhouse of the previous 5 teams was a less than scintillating minus 1. Their 10-point effort reminds us to never give up. When it comes to winning in BB's world, you just never know.

Champion Golfer of the Year 2025

This will be the fourth edition of our Major Tournament. It is a two-day event that will be played on Tuesday September 23 and Wednesday September 24. These two days are tournament play only; there is no regular play. You must commit to playing both days if you enter. We will use Thursday and or Friday if weather does not cooperate.

Here comes an uncomfortable reality. We will only have room for 24 players. Not going to expand. I believe it was our second year we had 24 and that was trying enough.

If 24 or less sign up, then we have no problem. If we have more than 24 show interest, here is how it will work. All veteran BB's are exempt and will be in the tournament if they sign up by September12.

We will have a qualifier on Tuesday September 16th for our newcomers interested to fill the remaining slots. The top scores get in. As always, your cooperation is appreciated.

Veterans need to let me know of your decision soon.

August Review

August was a high scoring month. Blame the hard ground or maybe fewer missed days to weather or just some people finding their game. Regardless, the stats are telling.

The group was plus 106 for the month.

We started the month with 2 players with a handicap of 30 or more. We now have 8.

Sixteen different BB's had a double jump this month. Scott, Don, Leroy, Doc, and Glen had 2.

Five players improved their handicap number by 4. Don and Leroy improved by 5.

We played 16 complete rounds with 32 different BB's participating. A total of 293 rounds were played: that's an average of 18 players a day, certainly our highest mark ever.

Scott, Doc, and Butch were the only multiple CTP winners with 2 each.

Don, Scott, and Leroy were the only multiple Medal winners with 2. Scott and Leroy's both did theirs on a Thursday, how very convenient.
