BB's Wet & Wild Weekend What's Up
No news is good news is what I am assuming with the group as nothing of a terrible nature has reached my ears as of now. We had a little water seep in the basement, first time in over 10 years. We lucked out again as far as the severe weather goes. No damage. So looking forward to a dry stretch of sun.
We did get 2 official rounds of BB's golf in before the storms, so I have the wrap up of those. Plus, a review of the month of March with lots of numbers to confuse most of you.
We start, however, with some personal notes.
Scott is heading to Memphis today for 3 days of procedure on his ear, so we will miss our rock, our most reliable member for the week. If successful, Scott will have his hearing restored closer to normal. The bad news is he will actually be able to hear the post round ranting and whining.
Last week I finished my story from 1973 which included a bit about my former track coach. Couldn't believe when I opened the Saturday Missourian to see his picture in the obituaries. If you subscribe to the Missourian, I suggest you read his write up. It is quite humorous and details his change of direction when he left education and was introduced to the Elks Club. RIP Robert Andrews.
Now a true story about little Johnny.
Little Johnny comes home, and his dad asks, "Well Johnny, what did you learn in 4th grade today?" Johnny, clearly excited, says, "Did you know that before we were humans that we were monkeys?!!!" "Wow, that is so cool", responds his Dad. "What were we before we were monkeys?" Johnny's eyes grow big as he is obviously in deep thought. "Gosh Dad, I don't know. I can't even remember being a monkey!"
Tuesday April 1
The first day of April brought out 17 BB's. There was no fooling around by Doc, Roger, Clint, and Jeff. Their +8.5 on the Front was 12 and a half points clear of their closest pursuers. They failed to win the Back 9 but held on to easily win the Total. A birdie on #3 also gives them the Random Skin.
Rick's Medalist best +5 leads his team to victory on the Back 9.
Glen's CTP win salvages a win for his group.
Weds April 2
If it weren't for the forecast of terrible weather for the rest of the week, I do not believe 10 BB's would have showed to play in constant near 30mph winds. But we did. I can't recall a day when we had at least 10 players and everybody saw their handicap drop at the end of play. But we did.
It was, however, a tight range of scores individually, from -3 to -7. Needless to say, the team scores hit record numbers, for futility.
Minus 7 tied for best score on the Front 9, Minus 5 wins the Back 9, and minus 12 wins the Total. All records this year for worst scores to actually win.
Although the wind didn't affect the dealing of the cards, the results were just as crappy. Wednesday's Card Game was also a display of futility. The team with 4 cards only had a Jack high. The team with the most cards turned all 7 without a pair, straight, or flush. King high was their best. The team with 6 cards finally turned an Ace with their fifth turn, good enough to win.
March Review
March allowed us 18 days of play although the conditions weren't always favorable. We had 28 different players complete 193 rounds, nearly 11 per round.
Glen returned from Mexico ready to play as he was the only Bud's Boy to play all 18 rounds. He won the first 16 times before finally losing, coming up 4 short of KZ's record 20 game win streak. He did finish the month with a 17-1 record, including 5 CTP's, 3 better than Doc, Butch, and Randy.
Glen dominated the money list with a whopping $122 take. Roger ($64) and Scott ($61) were next, far, far behind. Glen did buy the requisite number of buckets to spread his wealth.
Today's fun with numbers is what I referred to above as your 'record'. I will use myself as today's example.
I played 13 times in March. I won money 10 of those times giving me a record of 10-3. I 'won' 57 dollars. Now I know there are some negative Nelly's out there who say you only 'win' if you get back more than $5. To them my record would be 4-9 as I only won more than $5 4 of the 13 days. And since I put in $65 (13 days times $5 for those with Jackson educations), they would say I 'lost' $8 for the month. I refuse to play their negative game. I was 10-3 for March and won $57!
Here are some of our best records of the year:
Roger 14-1 (.93-win percentage)
Raymond 18-2 (.90)
Glen 24-3 (.89)
Mikey is still undefeated at 5-0.
Expect to see Floyd return this week. Hope he brings plenty of sunshine with him.
Dumping water from rain Guage for third time since Wednesday. Rounding up.. saying total of 9". Lots of limbs trees and debris from creek overflowing in park. Hope you are all ok!
