 Bud's Boys Groundhog Day Edition

Results from our long-awaited return to the course plus more looking back at 2024.

It is official, Punxsutawney Phil proclaims that there will be golf at Kimbeland tomorrow (Monday). 11:00 tee time and, as always, bring your own food and beverage.

News Flash

CNN is calling for Leroy to resign as BB's Sergeant at Arms for using an inappropriate salute.

Leroy responded by saying, "CNN?, never heard of them."

A Trump Executive Order Everyone (especially PGA Pros) Can Agree With

After 25 long days of waiting, Bud's Boys finally hit the links. Fourteen players shook off the dust and snowflakes from their clubs to play some pretty decent golf considering the extended layoff. I did not witness a single player whiff on their opening tee shot.

Doc (medalist best +5), Shelly (+4), Glen, Raymond, and Gary (all +3) stood out from the pack as the group took 2 tours around the Front 9 as the Back 9 was still undergoing cleanup.

Dean took the CTP on #8 and Doc's birdie on #3 takes the Random Skin.

Another gathering of 14 were able to cover all 18 holes as the Back 9 was deemed ready for play today.

Tom earns a double jump on his handicap with a Medalist best +6. Add in Shelly's +3 and their team takes 2 legs of the FBT and also earns enough cards for a full house winning card game.

Leroy (+5) and Glen (+4) do not receive enough help to cash in on the FBT, but Glen's first CTP of the year gives them a little spending money to take home.

Clint and Bob turned in solid scores of +4 each.

2024 Look Back- July through December

July brings the first day of our latest Bingo game. It was also family day at Kimbeland. John brings his son Jet

and Scott brings his grandpa Rodney.

On July 3rd we had our 6th Royal Flush on Card Game Wednesday.

On July 10th, Butch returns from Africa just to help stop Doc's Floyd attempt.

On July 11th, Jeff hit a very wayward tee shot from the 18th tee box requiring him to visit the coyote next to the 9th green.

On July 25th, Doc again goes for the Floyd only to be bested by Scott.

On July 30th (a 115 degree heat index), Glen's 14 game win streak ends still 6 shy of KZ's record.

On July 31, the Bingo game ended. It took 13 playing days.

On August 20th, we celebrated Rick and KZ's Birthdays.

Play of the day was Gerald's eagle from 140 yards out on #9 to win the Random Skin (Jeff had birdied).

On August 23rd, Bill scores a season high +13.

On the same day, Tom has a 23 point Back 9 with 5 birdies and 4 pars.

On August 27th, Tom, Keith, and Bill win the most one-day take home prize. They accomplish the 7th Royal Flush of the year on a 5-team day. They take the entire $75 pot.

On August 30, Butch holes out from over 100 yards on #15.

On September 3rd we welcomed Roger back after a health setback.  He hadn't played since July10th.

September 4th brought Leroy's near hole-in-one on #4.

On September 5th, Randy, Floyd, and Leroy win the 8th Royal Flush of 2024 on Medalist Thursday. It is Leroy's 3rd consecutive day of winning $15.

On September 12th at the Crown Point CC, Glen shoots a 60 at a SEMO Sr tourney. Leroy documented the scorecard.

On October 1st, Randy shoots a 2nd round +6 to claim the prestigious Champion Golfer of the Year Trophy by 2 strokes over Brian and defending Champion Raymond.

Dean's Dream Day happened on October 10. Dean scored the most points (30), won Medalist on Medalist Thursday, won the CTP, and with Leroy's help swept the FBT to complete the 9th Royal Flush.

Only 5 days later, the team of Tom, Raymond, and Mikey complete the 10th Royal Flush on Random Skin Day.

Monday November 11th was the last Royal Flush of 2024. The final total of 11 answers the question from one of our loyal readers.

On November 20th, Leroy scores his season best +9 on a day with 4 teams participating only to be 'Ruppeled' by Doc, Marty, and Butch. His team is shutout.

On December 9th, Raymond's Floyd attempt is immediately quashed when Gary hits his tee shot on #18 to 3 inches playing in the first group.

John gets his hole-in-one playing an exhibition match.

On December 30th, after an 11-day weather delay, Glen joins Floyd and Butch as the only players to win 3 CTP's in a row.

One last 'Blast from the Past'.

I stumbled onto the old notebook I used to track our handicap numbers after I took it over from Bud. We all remember his clip board with the dog-eared papers that he had to pick through every day to check your number. I started taking the cards home and tallying them. Our old system of your last 5 scores was more accurate but a lot of work. It also had that interesting quirk of your number going up after a bad day or going down after a good day depending on what the number was that was knocked off.

Anyway, here is a look at 5 players from long ago. Note how much room just 5 players of the close to 40 we record takes up compared to our simplified system.
