Sunday December 29

Merry Christmas and a Happy Hole-in-one.

It was for John as he holed out on #12 while getting through the weather with Glen and Raymond last Monday.

A very nice Christmas present for John. He joins Scott and Shelly (and anyone I have forgotten) as BB's with 2024 aces.

Bud's Boys News Tid Bits

Doc presented Dusty and the grounds crew with our Mulligan Fund plus the extra individual donations by the group shortly before Christmas. Doc says Dusty wants BB's to know how appreciative the crew are for our generous consideration.

The last 2 official rounds we have played were Friday the 13th and Thursday the 19th. Glen won both of those CTP's so whenever we get to play again, he will be going for the Floyd.

About playing again, tomorrow (Monday 12/30) would be an 11:00 tee time as usual. There are no official tee times again until Friday January 3rd when our official tee times start at 9:58. Tuesday through Thursday is open play so I suppose we will gather at the normal time if those days are playable. Remember clubhouse still closed until Jan 3.

The weather has really kicked our backside this month. Last year we were able to play 35 times (19 in Nov and 16 in Dec) in the last 2 months of the year compared to 19 (13 in Nov and 6 thus far in Dec) so far in 2024.

Here are photos just sent to me (1:50 pm) of current conditions on #2 and #18 by Raymond.

We need our golf. Here is an excerpt from a study in Great Britain a couple of years ago.

Decades of studies have concluded that natural light has a powerful, positive effect not only on mental health, but also on physical health and general well-being. We need our outdoor time, even if it is cold and somewhat miserable to keep our sanity.

If you are still hanging around, let me fill some time with some 2024 Bud's Boys useless factoids.

The best team score for 18 holes this year was +25 on Feb 27th with only 3 players. KZ +11, Bob +8, and Tom +6.

They also set the standard for the Back 9 with a +15 1/2 on the same day.

The best Front 9 score belonged to Bob, Bill, Glen, and Gerald with a +13 on June 12th.

What about the worst scores you ask?

Minus 12 1/2 was recorded twice on the Front 9.

Shelly, KZ, and Butch set the mark on Feb 5th.

It was tied by Raymond, Scott, Roger, and Clint on March 11th (In fairness, Scott was +2 on the day).

The worst Back 9 was accomplished by Leroy, Roger, Jeff, and Butch when they recorded a smelly -15 on April 23rd. This capped off the worst team Total of -23 when coupled with their -8 on the Front.

Oddities

How about the 'worst' score that won?

On Monday March 25, all 3 teams competing shot a -5.5 on the Front 9 to tie for first.

On March 26th, the last group in were shocked that their -4.5, -4.5, -9 swept the 3-team affair by 8 points. The team of Raymond, Glen, Scott, and Roger claim the 'worst' score to win the Back 9 in 2024. To show how incompetent the other 2 teams were that day, this team also won the skin with a PAR on #1.

The worst team score to win the Total was a -10 on a 2-team head-to-head match on August 29.

The largest margin of victory over the nearest competitor was on October 11th when the team of Allen, KZ, Scott, and Leroy bested the 2nd place team by 21 points (+9 versus -12).

The biggest spread from first to last was that +25 mentioned earlier and a -7 for a 32-point spread.

My favorite oddity occurred on October 16th when the team of Raymond, Glen, Roger, and Butch combined for a laughable -10.5, -9.5, -20 Total to lose by 26 points (and 20 points behind the 3rd place team) yet win the Wednesday Card Game. Never give up my friends!

Comments

  1. Thanks for the summary. Hard to believe such fine golfers ( Bud’s Boys) could possibly shoot those crazy scores. Doc
