Bud's Boys Weekly Bugle
The sun has set on the month of August. We will discuss the 4 days of play this week followed by a close look at the August results and a few of the yearly numbers. But first this important message.
2024 Champion Golfer of the Year
The big tournament is coming up this month. We have chosen Wednesday and Thursday Sept 25 and 26. We need you to commit to those 2 days by signing up for the Tourney. This is very important as we must make tee times for the correct number of golfers as last year was a crowded field. I will have the sign-up sheet with me this week. We also need to let Scott get your correct handicap ready in time. Please do not wait too long to make your decision. More details in future posts.
Tuesday 8/27
Nice turn out of 15 BB's on the first day of the last week in August. Unfortunately for a dozen of those players, they leave the course without any winnings. Although we do not keep official records, a couple of marks today are surely at or near the top.
Bill double jumps for the second straight day with today's Medalist best +6. That's a 2-day total of a Sheffler like +19. Best 2-day total? Maybe.
Bill's performance leads his team to the FBT sweep but his teammates add to their possible record take.
Keith's birdie on #9 wins the Random Skin and Tom's CTP on #18 completes the Royal Flush of all 5 events. The $25 per player seems hard to top, at least in recent memory. I will go out on a limb and say that Tom has the record for most money won in one day while still having your hcp number go down. Well played.
Wednesday 8/28
The deep August heat was back and coupled with a Dexter SEMO Senior event held today's number to only 7.
Brandon has one of his best ever rounds in totaling 33 points, winning the CTP and earning today's Medal at +9. Alas, his team could only tie the Front giving their opponents the Back, Total, and Card Game.
Thursday 8/29
There was no respite from the brutal heat as only 8 BB's made the effort. Play suffered greatly from the conditions as evidenced by the winning Total score of Minus 10.
No player's number moved up on this steamy day as Medalist Day honors were shared by Glen and Bob with +1's.
Tom wins his league leading 14th CTP.
Friday 8/30
The last playing day of August consisted of three 3-man teams.
Shelly inspects the troops, apparently all weekend passes were revoked.
KZ and Butch were today's standout golfers. KZ was Medalist with +5, leading to victories on the Front and Total. His birdies on 1, 5, and 11 snare the Rabbit.
Butch wins the CTP on #18 but his best shot of the day was actually on hole #15 when his approach to the green settled at the bottom of the cup for an eagle 2. This is enough for his team to claim the Back 9.
Butch is also the author of the following photo below. It seems Butch was accused of being a lousy photographer by the unknown subject of the photo. However, when questioned by the press later, Butch only smiled and said, "No controversy, it is exactly the picture I was going for."
August Review
The lack of rain this month allowed us to play 18 times with 31 different BB's playing 208 rounds. An average of nearly 12 a day. The heat certainly held attendance somewhat.
Tom added 4 CTP's to his total this month and Jeff added 3 to his. They were the only multiple winners in August.
Glen was the only 3-time Medalist. Allen, KZ, Bob, and Bill all had a couple.
Moneywise, Tom topped the $100 mark, finishing with $104 in winnings.
KZ was next with $77, followed by Allen and Rodney with $71 each.
Yearly Totals
We are two thirds through 2024, and this is where we stand. Here is who you are most likely to see if you join the group on any given day.
Scott leads the pack with 104 days, Randy 99, Glen 90, Tom 86, and KZ with 83.
Those in the 70's include Allen and Doc at 72 and Leroy with 71.
The 60's list Jeff at 69, Raymond 64, Butch 63, and Bob 62.
Tom leads CTP with 14. Jeff and Randy have 10, Doc 9.
Scott and KZ have 12 Medals, Leroy and Roger have 10.
KZ has taken the yearlong money lead with $532 in winnings. Scott ($523) and Glen ($498) are his nearest pursuers.
Roger will be back in action on Tuesday and no he has not be off taking secret golf lessons.
