Sunday August 11
Bud's Boys Sunday Gazette
Results from Thursday and Friday plus the conclusion of the hole-by-hole comparison for the month of July.
First bit of news is about Thursday tee times. Looks like we will be teeing off at 9:58 on Thursdays until the Ladies Thursday Morning League wraps up next month. We will keep you posted.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday remain at 9:42.
Thursday August 8 Results
Leroy wins his 10th Medal of the year (and 3rd on Thursday when it actually pays) with a +6 to lead his team to victories on the Front 9 and Total.
Tom wins his 11th CTP, tops for the season thus far.
Friday August 9
Scott has a day to remember as his Medalist best +6 paves the way for a FBT sweep for his team. His 3 birdies are also enough to snare the Friday Rabbit. At his post round press conference, he thanked Rodney for "Getting me around the course in one piece, although there were some doubtful moments along the way."
Shelly wins the CTP to prevent the Royal Flush.
Hole by Hole with the BB's
The first four holes are all on the back 9 and are only separated by 4 points. Remember the number in parentheses is the Kimbeland handicap number.
9 (7) Ninth toughest is hole 11. The par 5 yielded 237 points and 9 birdies.
8 (3) Hole #10 is next with 236 points but only 5 birdies, 3rd toughest to get
a 3. Paired with #11 above, it is a tough start to the Back 9.
7 (13) Hole 16 plays tougher than Kimbeland's hcp number indicates. My guess is that the Back 9 'Fatigue Factor' is kicking in and it is a tough green to putt when you are on the wrong level. 234 points and
11 birdies.
6 (5) Our 6th toughest is hole #14, my personal demon. It gave up 233
points and only 6 birdies.
5 (12) Always tough on our group, hole #5 checks in with 230 points
and 8 birdies.
4 (4) We agree with Kimbeland here as we both show that hole #2 is the
#4 handicap hole. We scored 230 points and 8 birdies, identical
to hole #5.
3 (6) Third toughest hole is hole #3. The par 5 gave up 11 birdies but only
224 points. I didn't count double-bogeys but I wouldn't be surprised
if this hole led the way. Trouble off the tee can lead to some bad choices on 2nd and 3rd shots.
2 (11) Our 2nd toughest hole is hole #15. 222 points but only 2 birdies out
of 172 chances. Without a really strong drive, a pretty lengthy 2nd
shot to a green with not many flat putts available.
1 (1) Kimbeland lists this as the toughest hole and our stats would agree.
Only 219 points for an average of 1.27. That tells us that a foursome
will likely walk off with 5 points, a threesome with 3 sometimes 4.
It also yielded only 4 birdies: 2nd fewest for any hole. My take on
this hole is that it is the toughest because of the consequences of
missing the green on your 2nd shot are so great. Finding the trap
usually results in a visit from ol' Uncle Dub (double bogey). Missing
just slightly to the right might send you all the way down to Leroy's
Landing, making bogey difficult. Tee shot also tough on those who
don't get the ball up in the air quickly.
The 172 rounds of golf played in July breaks down to this.
We scored 2237 points (80 birdies) on the Front 9, +46.
We scored 2133 points (65 birdies) on the Back 9, -58.
An average team round would be +3.5, -4.5, -1.
Any thoughts or observations, other than I must have a lot of time to kill, would be interesting and welcome. What is your nemesis hole?
Roger says he will be back playing golf with Bud's Boys Sept 3rd. Six weeks after the operation for now I am putting and chipping (no more than 10 chips a day) for a while.
