Masters and Match Play
The Masters golf tournament will be held April 11 through 14. We will have a play along tournament with our scores combined with the Pros on TV. You must be able to play Thursday and Friday April 11 and 12 to participate. Our regular games will be played on those days also, the Masters is just a side game. Let me know if I can sign you up.
The other event is a match play tournament that I would like to start ASAP. It would be played with handicaps like some of you are doing now in side bets during our regular play. I will start taking names now through texts or comments on blog or in person at the course. I think a $1 entry fee sounds reasonable.
Bud's Boys Stats
Nineteen different BB's have scored a CTP thus far in 2024. Here is the list of those with more than 1.
Tom, Jeff, and Randy with 4.
Rick, Doc, and Butch with 2.
Eighteen different players have earned a Medal.
Jeff stands out with 6. Scott has 4 and Raymond has 3. Several have claimed 2.
I didn't play golf Thursday or Friday, giving me a chance to look at some numbers while the rain fell.
Curious about the results from our scoring and game system, I chose 3 players based on the number of times they have played.
Clint has played 15 times, almost half of our total days played of 31.
He finished plus on 7 days, minus on 8. His scores ranged from +4 to -8. He averaged about +2.5 on good days and -3.5 on bad. He has earned $74 in winnings. Those of you with a calculator will realize he has put in $75 to play those 15 days giving him a net of minus 1 dollar. Fortunately for Clint he has earned enough quarters in side games to cover his loss.
To summarize, Clint plays close to his handicap and stays close to even on money which is how you hope the system works most of the time.
Butch has played 20 times or about 2/3's of the days played. He finished plus on 10 days, minus on 8, and even on 2 occasions. His range of scores is +7 to -10. His 10 plus days added to +32. His 8 minus days added to -32. So Butch has played 20 times with a total score of even. I would say his handicap is working for him. You would think his money situation would be about even after reading that. Not so fast partner. Butch has won $146 in his 20 days played, a net of +46. As Leroy might say, "How does he do that?"
As you might expect, Scott has played the most with 30 days. He has finished plus on 12 days, minus on 14 and even on 4. His range is +12 through -9. He averages +4 on good days (higher than Butch or Clint) and -4.5 on bad days (also more than Butch and Clint). His money situation is $147. Those of you still reading can figure out that (on average) Scott puts in $5 and wins $5 every time he plays. The number game seems to work for Scott.
One might deduce from the above info that when Scott and Clint have those plus days, Butch must be on their team but not if they don't.
Wednesday March 6
A great scoring day as Gerald, Jeff, and Scott card +7's and Glen a +6.
Jeff wins a lame CTP (but it still counts).
Jeff also turns a diamond flush with the 7 cards his team earned to win that event.
Raymond gets early start on St Patty's day, using his luck o' the Irish to score -9 and share Jeff's good fortune.
Thursday March 7
Leroy owns the day. His +7 on Medalist Day beats John by 2.
Leroy then caps the day with his first CTP this season.
I want in on match play. Doc —- great analysis, Randy .
