Thursday Results, February Review, Old Curmudgeon Rant on Sports, Weekend Edition

Please skip down to 'February Review' if you have no interest in high school basketball.

Before we get to the golf, I find myself having to vent my frustrations after watching a 'District Championship' game last night. My son loves Friday night football and basketball and I try to accommodate when possible, so I always hope for a decent game to watch. Last night's game was in Dexter with Dexter facing off with Cape Notre Dame. How exciting was this game you ask? After taking a 12-10 lead with 2 minutes left in the1st quarter, Dexter did not score a point for the rest of the half. That's 10 minutes OF ZERO POINTS! Ever the good sportsmen, ND returned the favor by NOT MAKING A BASKET IN THE 3rd QUARTER! Only a terrible call by the ref on a clean block allowed ND to make 2 free throws with 2.1 seconds left to prevent them from a goose egg in the 3rd. Am I watching a soccer game here? (Ok, it wasn't as bad as that) At least the basketball gods rewarded Dexter when, with the 2.1 seconds remaining, they in-bounded the ball and a kid hit a shot from well past half-court. Half the crowd went crazy, and the other half woke up (that would include me). In my old man/ back in my day opinion, the 3-point shot and this terrible phase of over-coaching every single possession has ruined the ability to enjoy watching a game. I have seen many games the last couple of years where little scoring is done the first 2 or 3 quarters only to see a team turn it on late in the game trying to catch up when they just play run & gun playground ball. Gene Hackman's 'Hoosiers' and their 3 passes have nothing on today's teams. At least the Hoosiers were working on an open shot, working inside if possible. Today it's all about the 3-pointer. The 'Old Curmudgeon' finds this more un-watchable by the year.

Sorry for the rant, back to golf while we wait for the waters to recede.

February Review

An extremely surprising 13 days of golf were played this month in Bud's Boys world. A total of 29 different golfers participated this month, playing 178 rounds for an average of about 14 per day. On one particularly mild day, 19 showed, tops for the month.

I know everyone is tired of hearing about Butch, Butch, Butch, but it was his month. He, Jeff, and Scott topped the money list although Butch won as much as Jeff and Scott combined. Add the fact that he equaled Floyd's astonishing feat of 3 CTP's in a row, and he earned his Mr. February moniker.

Best wishes to KeyZ, Rick, and Clint for a better March.

Gary and Scott won the most Medals, 4 each, while Jeff also had 3 CTP's for the month, the only other player with more than 1.

The sun sets on February, from Doc in Florida.

Thursday Play

A bleak Friday forecast moved 5-dollar Friday up a day for the 11 BB's at KCC.

Scott's Medalist best +9 secured FBT for his team of Shelly and KeyZ, whose birdie on 10 also catches the Rabbit.

Marty's first CTP prevents the Royal Flush sweep.

Mikey throws in an impressive +4 runner up to Scott.

Highlight of the round. Leroy poses after hitting his approach on 9 to less than a foot. Tap in birdie.

Lowlight of the round. Leroy revisits 'Leroy's Landing' after an errant shot on 12.
