Weekend Oct 1

 October 1 Weekend Edition

Sit back and relax, this may take a while. We will start with this submission from Deano.

Thanks, Dean, for reminding me what happened on my last tee shot Friday.

Tee Times

Tuesday's first official tee time is 10:14. We only have 4 and are bookended by the same ladies' group so I have no idea how this will shake out. You better be early if you want a chance to be included. No guarantees we all get in.

Wednesday and Thursday will be the usual 10:06.

Friday course closed, plan accordingly.

SEMO Seniors- Jaycee

Gary gets a 6th place and $15. Bill, Dean, and Randy take a 7th in their flights, good for $10.

Bud's Boys Player of the Day easily goes to Clint. He made sure he did not finish 1 spot out of the money by scorching the JC course with a 4 under 66. Tack on his 5 handicap and his net 61 blows away his division. Way to go Clint, BB's are proud of your championship effort!

Kimbeland Fall Classic

For the few of you who haven't heard, BB's own Tom, Randy, and Shelly, with help from Harriet D, shot a tournament best 16 under par 56 on Sunday. Suspiciously, that followed a 5 under 67 on Saturday. This resulted in the first 'Double Bump' that anyone around here has ever heard of. From 4th place in 'C' Flight to 2nd place in 'A' Flight was the final destination. The bad news in all of this is the abuse we have had to hear from so-called friends and acquaintances. The good news is that our bunkers now have plenty of new sand.

Bud's Boys Champion Golfer Update (Oct 19-20)

I did say our dates were not set in stone. After discussion Friday, our new dates for the 2-day tourney are Weds Oct 19 and Thurs Oct 20. Raymond has brought up some rule clarifications to situations we frequently face, just to make sure we are all on the same page. We will endeavor to get group consensus on this well before tournament starts.

September Review

We played 16 days, same as last year. We had 36 different players, completing 255 rounds. That's an average of 16 per day. Scott and KeyZ led with 14 appearances. The number 12 was popular as Tom, Randy, Bob, Doc, Jeff, Keith, and Leroy all hit that mark. Doc, Ramond, and KeyZ were big winners for the month while Scott, Rodney, and Leroy vow revenge in October.

CTP Update

Since our last update on Aug. 3rd, Leroy made the biggest move adding 5. Glen, Jeff, and Westy each notched 3 more. Here is the top 15.

Glen        10
Randy      9
Clint         8
Raymond 8
Andy        7
Jeff           7
Leroy       7
Tom         6
Doc          6
Bob          4
Allen        4
Rodney    4
Floyd       4
Scott        4

My First Blog (1973)

This past week, for the first time in several years, I had a conversation with an old classmate who happens to be Shelly's first cousin. Inevitably, we went back to the 'old days' and one of our joint ventures came up. After he brought the subject up, I realized that this venture was my first blog! Didn't realize I have been on a nearly 50-year break. Of course, back then it was known as a newspaper. The local Illmo-Scott City newspaper thought it a good idea to have 2 football players cover the games for the paper. I was an obvious choice naturally, and I thought he might help me out, you know, getting me coffee, sharpening pencils, etc. Okay, that's an exaggeration because in truth, I think we were chosen because the two of us actually went to class. Anyway, even then, I made an attempt to make mostly plain reporting a little more fun. This reprint is from Oct 4th, 1973.

Using 2 cans of Coke sitting between us as inspiration, we thought we would slip anything related to soft drinks into the story. We came up with 7 references in the first 8 or 9 sentences. We were very pleased with ourselves until we realized no one caught it unless we told them. Not as clever as we thought we were. You have been forewarned, see if you can see the 7.

And the answers are:

1. crushed- (Orange Crush)

2. 7 up

3. teamed up- We actually spelled it teem (like the Pepsi version of 7up), but the editor caught it.

4. canned

5. poured

6. on ice

7. capped

How did we miss 'bottled up their offense'?

As I bragged to my unimpressed niece once, "I was a triple threat, ran the ball, caught the ball, and wrote the story."

Photo of the Week

This is our Sgt.-at-Arms and rules arbiter teeing up on 12 Friday. Your comments are encouraged. Here's mine: "how to increase the length of your drive, guaranteed!"

Thursday Results

Doc's CTP prevents sweep.

Friday Results

All 4 teams got a little return on 5-dollar Friday. Tom takes CTP. Brandon's 2nd day in a row as Medalist (+8 with a career best 32 points) gives his team the edge as top winners.

  4. Could it be: someone moved tee markers, tee box so hard you have to find a hole for tee, I think it's an optical illusion because of very bowed legs!
