The good news for Tuesday is that we will have sunshine. Not so good news is the 10 0'clock tee time temperature of 39 degrees. Worse news is the 10-11 mph wind. You have all of Sunday and Monday to get out your cold weather gear, check your cart heater, and prepare yourself mentally. Wednesday will be warmer (relatively speaking) with less wind and full sun, guaranteeing a great finish to the first ever 'Bud's Boys Champion Golfer of the Year' 2-day tournament. Do not even think of dropping out because of a little cold weather! You will be shunned and relegated to the last group for the rest of your BB's career. And turn in your Bud's Boys hat. As Brian would tell you, it still beats working (He has used his last 2 vacation days to play the tourney, so let's not bail on him).
It is important to remember this is a new idea that has evolved from casual talk to a real event. Though we have sorted through several suggestions, they all had the same end result. Something different, something fun, something a little more special. We will figure out the good, the bad, the 'what we should have done' as we go. We have tried our best but will gladly accept constructive advice. It is, after all, 'Our' tournament. Thanks again to Rick for the trophy we will be playing for.
We have modeled this like a U.S. Open or British Open where conditions are tougher than a normal week of play. You may still noodle your ball, but you cannot MOVE it. If your backswing is inhibited, or a tree is in your way, or you are barely in an unhittable lie, (water, weeds, rocks, against wall on 16) you must take a drop (1-stroke penalty) or hit it as it lays. Double bogey is the worst you can get anyway. Play it as it lays in the sand traps, we are all playing the same ones. As Norm says, "If you don't like it there, don't hit it there."
No, Andy, you do not get a free drop.
Our handicap for the first day has been established using the old 'Bud' system, a tribute to our founding scorekeeper. We chose 5 random September days, recorded your score and divided by 5. It is just a number; we all have plenty other ways to win as you will see in a minute. It will be adjusted for 2nd day per usual.
We have 17 confirmed and about 6 who will play if circumstances allow. Here is the proposed payout.
Obviously, payout could change slightly depending on final number of players. Thanks to our Wacky Wednesday Author Scott for taking the time to iron out the details for a fair and entertaining first tourney.
Meet Some of the Players Favored to Win
Rick
Rumor has it that Rick has already constructed a shelf in his house to hold the trophy he made. To bring it home he must beat:
Raymond
Raymond will be hindered by playing a different set of irons this week as he awaits yet another new set, Mizunos this time. When asked to tell us something about himself we probably don't know, he quickly answered, "I like to stretch early in the morning by dancing to my Brittany Spears music."
Brian
As previously mentioned, Brian has scheduled his entire year around this event and says he will be quite disappointed not to take the trophy home. His answer to something we don't know is, "I have a putting mat in the back of my delivery truck. I only practice when taking authorized breaks, of course."
Rodney
"I am not playing if it's too D*** cold, and you can't make me!
Westy
When informed that we were playing the traps as is, he responded:
Leroy
We caught up with Leroy after his workout at his local gym.
Mikey
Everyone's favorite playing partner started a weight program weeks ago just for the tournament. He commented that the results are plain to see.
Floyd
Floyd spent the last week practicing, fishing.
Good Luck to All
Thursday Results
Mikey's Medalist best +5 and another CTP from Glen gives their team half of the Thursday pot. Randy, Bob, and Scott win the other half by basically not playing as bad as everyone else.
Scott cleans up his tee shot on 4.

DeleteI was there.
ReplyDeleteThere was no conspiracy.
In order to prevent an OVERALL pre tournament decline in point quotas, it was
decided that the average of 5 random days from September would be used to set the players number.
16 cards representing the available days in the 4 full weeks of the month were used.
One person shuffled the cards.
Another person drew 5 cards.
A third person matched the dates and calculated the average.
It was fair. It was equitable.
All are invited to participate under this format.
Raymond
Why change the format for this event only
DeleteI give up.
DeleteWow you have to make 3 less and I have to make 2 more I get now. How foolish of me to think this about equality. Have fun
