Tues May 31

Image
The last day of May was a high scoring affair with 8 of the 16 golfers finishing at +3 or better, led by Dean the 'Dream' at +9 and Bob at +6. Bob, Glen, Doc, and Leroy teamed up for a robust +13, but it took Leroy's 2nd CTP of 22 for them to win anything. Medalist Dean, Tom, Rick, and Dennis lapped the field with their +13  +9   +22 performance. Mark Roger Sighting Roger stops by Kimbeland to have lunch with his cardiologist Dr. Butch. In an effort to eat healthier, Roger had a diet-Coke to go with his double-cheeseburger and fries. Hang in there Roger, we need you back as Mikey seems a little lost in your absence.

Memorial Day 2022

My Memorial Day Story Thanks to all who have served. While it should be every day, I hope you realize many of us appreciate the meaning of today's celebration. I understand our group is well known for "recycling" stories, so I apologize to those who have already heard this more than once. However, I find myself in a mood this Memorial Day Eve to add extra narrative and throw in a few pictures to a day I will never forget. Saturday May 30, 1964, when Memorial Day was celebrated on the 30th regardless of the day of the week. My uncle Russell convinces the family we should run up to St. Louis and take in the 1:30 Cardinal game. Two weeks shy of my 8th birthday, I am in complete shock. I am going to my first Cardinal game. Eight of us (me, mom, my brother, uncle Russell, 2 aunts, a cousin, and my grandma) pile into a 60 or 61 Impala and head to St. Louis. Still remember the smell of the city, especially all the Greyhound buses surrounding the park. My family walking outside

Tee Times Tues May 31 - Friday June 3 These are the "official" times you would see online. Of course, we must be ready sooner because of circumstances. Such as, the 10 o'clock group has 9:50 thru 10:14 Weds and Thursday. That's 4 tee times and they may only use 2. We could tee off shortly after 10 if we are READY! Call or text if you are running late.  Tues May 31-     10:30  Weds June 1-     10:22 Thurs June 2-    10:22 Fri June 3-           9:10  Yes, 9:10 Friday is at 9:10 so be warned. Friday Results The last Friday of May was another chilly pullover wearing kind of day. Sixteen was the final count after Rodney pulled in a little late. Floyd and Brian were co-Medalists (+6), leading their teams to 2 and 1 wins respectively. Glen's CTP and 2 rabbit securing birdies win the other 2. Random Rants What I love about golf. To steal a quote from former Cardinal pitcher Joaquin Andujar.  Same with golf. This week my group of 4 faced the easiest hole on the course (pe

No, not those three. Oh yes, these three! The Over the Hill Gang or the Soggy Bottom Bud's Boys were 2 names I heard (that I could print). When our teams are determined by the random turn of the cards, it can make for some interesting combinations. Today was such a day, as our three eldest were grouped together. I am not going to reveal their ages but be assured each is a lot closer to a 100 than to 50 (like their golf scores). Through gracious generosity or perhaps simple golfing ineptitude by the other teams, the seasoned citizens swept the front, back, and total. Tom kept them from also taking CTP by hitting his "close enough to win". Luckily the 3 of them were nodding off while we paced off the distance, so they really couldn't argue the decision. Deano's Medalist winning +5 led the team as all 3 finished with plus scores. Glen had most points (34) and was the only other player in the field to finish in the plus column.  Congratulations to Deano, Rodney, a

An unexpected round of golf played on this Weds. Forecasts all showed little chance of golf and big chance for stormy weather. Nine players took a chance on getting a few holes in before the rain hit and were rewarded with a full 18, the last few in sunshine. Scott was the unanimous choice for MVBB (Most Valuable Bud's Boy).  His +5 earns Medalist, leads his team to Front and Total wins, and caps off round with his second CTP of the season. Tee Time Thurs- Be Checked in by 10:00! Tee Time Friday- Be checked in by 9:00, tee off by 9:26

Rammer Returns  The Rammer returned for a one-day engagement with his old group. Leroy said he really enjoyed his stories, especially the one about how he set the course record at his Florida club with a sizzling 62, and wrestling an alligator on the 18th green the same day. He joined 13 others as we toured 18 holes dotted by pin placements set by an obviously PO'd greenskeeper. Some interesting positioning of the holes must have been the reason for the poor scoring today. Only our Medalist Tom (+2) saw his number go up after completing the round. Hole 16 turned out to be toughest hole of the day, only because of pin placement. Situated at the cusp of the drop off, it yielded a mere 11 points. Take away Leroy's birdie (did not hear the details on that) and Clint's par, and the other 12 players combined for 6 points on 6 bogeys and 6 doubles. My group had a halfway up come back down putt. A from the top to the bottom, and a bottom to top, and then back down again. Rick, Bob

Windy, Windy Friday The winds never let up today and the scores reflected the tough conditions. Only Medalist Rick (+4) and Jeff (+2) saw their number go up after the day's round. Leroy couldn't keep his hat on for this shot on 5. After his group complained of the glare, he had his hat back on for this approach on 7. Turn your sound on to hear the wind gusting. Jeff takes his 3rd CTP and helps Mikey and Leroy win front 9 for 2 cuts of 5-dollar Friday. Rick, Randy, and Scott each birdied No. 1, jump-starting them to a team high 81 points, resulting in back 9, total, and rabbit victories. Carson S joined our group today to play Tom in match-play (Congrats Tom on the victory). Everyone should ask Butch about his experience playing along with the young man.  Tuesday Tee Time News We may be teeing off at 10 on Tuesday, as we are trying to get off a little early. If you are not checked in and ready before that time, text or call someone. We have to be off before 10:22. We are also t

Friday Tee Time 9:26 There was no Floyd accomplished today, but we now have a "Deano". More on that later. Randy's mediocre 20-footer on 18 was bested by 3 players, preventing his attempt at a "Floyd". Brandon was the best, earning his first CTP of the year. A second consecutive 3-way tie for Medalist had Leroy Mikey, and Randy scoring a modest +3. Randy had most points with 33. Mikey's 3 front 9 birdies were tops, with Scott and Randy kicking in 2 each.  The "Deano" After 5 straight bogeys to start his back 9, Dean said "Surely I can't bogey every hole". I believe he repeated that after his 7th straight bogey. Teeing up on 18 after his 8th straight bogey, he nearly hit in the water. A nice punch out and 2-putt later, he had his 9th straight. And they said it couldn't be done. So, if your back 9 scorecard looks like this: 111 111 111, you have a "Deano"! Mark Roger Update Mikey tells us Mark continues to improve and that
