Mon March 25

Who doesn't love ol' Yogi? His famous quote listed above came to mind at the conclusion of Monday's play. Remember this picture from March 15?

Yes, the Sandy brothers, Doc Sandy and Gary Sandy, were up to their old tricks. It was only last Tuesday these 2 teamed up for an FBT (front, back, total) sweep. The turn of the cards paired them together again today, and I will let you figure out what happened.

Speaking of cards, 21 was the number of players involved, making a sizable pot on the table. Four teams went bust, losing their antes. Thanks to Deanos CTP, his team did win 1 hand taking 1/4 of the pot. The rest went to the Sandy gang led by Medalist Gary at +9. Only 4 players handled the windy conditions well enough to raise their number. Besides Gary, kudos to Doc +5, Westy +5, and Roger +2.

Doc and Jeff birdie No. 1, a sizzling start to a winning round.

Westy stares down his birdie attempt on 13. He drained it, center cut.

Bill apologizes for being late to St. Patrick's Day. He was going to buy a round, if only the clubhouse had been open.

 Bud's Boys Golf Tips

Today's tip comes from Doc. Take it away Doc.

DOC: Hank Haney (former Tiger Woods coach) advocates slow roll around the hole statistically makes the hole bigger as slow putt on the edge will likely go in. Give it a try!

Thank you, Doc. In fairness, we present a review from Doc's teammate Scott.

SCOTT: I took Doc's advice during the round, here is my honest opinion. This tip might as well have come from Mr. Haney,
as little as it helped me.

Thank you, Scott, always best to hear both sides.

More Fun with Numbers

A strong south wind reinforced previous writings about how drastically it affects scoring on the front 9. Today's group of 21 was a -31 on the front, but only -6 on the back. A big 25 stoke difference. Here is the fun part. I would like those of you who played today (and those of you playing along at home) to pick out the toughest hole on the front today. My guess would have been No. 2, but it was only 3rd. My next choices 8 and 9. Actually 9 was No. 2 but 8 was surprisingly 2nd easiest after No. 1. Ah, No.5 is pretty tough, right? Sorry, the toughest hole today on the front is the easiest hole on the course (according to the scorecard handicap). No. 4 yielded a mere 19 points. That's less than bogey average. In fact, other than No. 14 (18 points yielded), it was the hardest hole on the course. Proves once again, it is not the length, it is how you play it.

Players anxiously watch scoreboard for final posting.

Here it is.

  1. Couldn't find hank haney tip about putting but found info from a site called practical putting. Lo and behold it basically agreed with doc and gave stats about how much smaller hole becomes for each inch you putt is hit too hard! Check back on stats from Dec and Jan. Some us played better before the sunshine!
