2'sday 2-22-22

Monday's Round

Although the temperature hovered around 60, another cloudy, gusty wind kind of a day greeted 14 Bud's Boys on Monday. Combine the weather with the very soft ground conditions limiting our distance and you have a recipe for our group numbers dropping once again. Kudos to our Medalist Jeff with +4, Butch +3 and Shelly +2, the only three to see their number go up. Scoring was very tough on the front as the group stumbled to finish at -31. Back 9 numbers rebounded to a +2, which made me a little curious. With extra time on this rainy day, I took a closer look. My findings a little later in the blog. Scott, Butch, Andy, and Shelly handily won the front (-1), and scored well enough on the back to hang on to the total to win 2 shares. The back was very close with Rodney, Leroy, Jeff, and Randy prevailing with +3. Mikey gets his teams entry fee back with his 2nd CTP of the year. Other news and highlights from the round include:

Leroy had a terrible start but explained after the round: "To be honest, I have never ridden in a cart with someone, how can I put this, someone with Rodney's 'seniority' and I was very nervous. When I realized he seemed to know where he was going, I loosened up and finished strong."

Jeff and Butch with 3 birdies each

Rodney most points with 31, and out driving Jeff and Randy on 15 (Jeff not convinced he was out)

Butch demonstrates a very typical Bud's Boys drive. First, the stance

The swing

And then, "Anyone see where that went?"

Bud's Boys Hats Make Kimbeland debut

Ten players currently sport the new lids, with others interested in getting to purchase one themselves. This was a spur of the moment kind of deal that just fell in front of me one night. I did not shop around or look for a better deal. I am sure they are out there. I can easily order more of these or take any suggestions from someone who can find a better deal. Let me know.

Fun with numbers (apologies to guest readers and those who didn't play as this will be boring)

This is, of course, a one-day sample but here are the results.
Who would have guessed that 7 was the easiest hole on the front?
Who would have guessed 14 was the 2nd easiest hole on the back? (no doubles!)
No surprise that 2 was the toughest hole, but 5 was the only hole without a par.
No surprise that 2,5,10, and 11 were the toughest, but number 1 the 5th toughest is a surprise.
Fun fact that only happens in golf. Hole 13 was so easy only one player failed to par or birdie. Our Medalist, Jeff.
Not sure if our back 9 is easier or if we need warm-up time, but it has played easier according to our recent play.

Bud's Boys Tip of the Day

We will close with a tip for playing in the wind, which we really need lately. If you find yourself facing a pitch shot close to the green, but directly into the wind, try this. Take a wider stance and actually lean forward toward the wind for a more stable position. Watch the following example please. It might take several viewings to get the idea, but it will be worth it.
