Sun Jan 9 Winter Wonderings
Weather Report, Rules Quiz, Fashion Corner, Trip back to 1973
If you are watching the PGA tourney playing in Hawaii as I am, you are anxious to get back to swinging the clubs as soon as possible.
These scenes are a slight improvement over the view of my back yard a couple of days ago.Watching these pros shooting lights out has, of course, cured all my bad habits and improved my putting to the point that I am fairly sure I'll never hit another bad shot. At least not from my couch. No rain in the forecast for several days but who knows when it will be dry enough to let us on the course. Tuesday looks sunny but cold and windy. Same on Wednesday. Thursday looks like a go. To play sooner depends on your golf anxiety level (I am sure there will be some that will play).

Rules Quiz
Try to give your decision before you get to the answer. This comes from GOLF Magazine (I have tried to splice it together).
Kenny and I had to defeat several Cape Central punks who had their own putters to prevail. There was this one older fellow who annoyingly stepped off his distance on each putt. We called him Don Quixote because he had a lot of trouble with the windmill! He finished last.

Look back at 1973
Let's join Mr. Peabody and Sherman in the Way Back Machine to 1973 golf happenings. Jack Nicklaus wins 7 tournaments including another Major. Ben Crenshaw wins his very first tournament and Tom Weiskopf wins his only Major, the British Open. The big news, however, is that Yours Truely wins his first golf tournament (okay technically 3rd place). At 17, I didn't even own golf clubs. This did not deter me as I bravely signed up and used course equipment to accomplish this amazing feat. Here is the big story as reported in The Jimplicute, a major newspaper in the 70's.

To retain my amateur status, I declined the 5-dollar 3rd place prize. Who knew that this victory would spur me on to the golf celebrity I now enjoy? Would love to hear any old golf stories (not X-rated) that you may have. Waiting for updates from our Southern correspondents Jeff and Bob on how bad the weather is in Florida.
