Wednesday May 31

Clint Dazzles Again, Blues Stay Hot, Greens Make a Move The last day of May was quite warm, temperature wise and on the scorecards. A total of 15 birdies were bagged on the day. One third of those birdies (that's 5 for you Jackson grads) were made by our newest 77-year-old. Yes Clint, who shot his age last week on his last day as a 76-year-old, bettered that at 77 years with a one-over par 72. His +8 easily wins Medalist and his 35 points were also tops. His feats of golfing skill drove his team to win 3 of today's events. They win the Back, Total, and in a stunning upset, defeat Westy in the Card Game. Westy graciously requests that Wednesday goes back to being Wacky. Roger Claims the last CTP of May. Bingo Update The Blues put more pressure on the other teams with another strong day. Blues Brothers Doc and Randy knocked 5 more holes out, including 5 and 14, 2 thorns in the side in the last contest. The Greens made the biggest push on the day. Clint's birdies, along with

Bingo II Begins, Blues Come Out Hot! Birdie season opened today with 14 birds being shot. In some cases, the same bird was shot by 2 or 3 from the same team. By the end of the round, the Greens and the Reds knocked 2 holes off the list. Not bad for the first day. The Blues, however, came out in a full court press by bagging 6 holes on the front 9 and 1 on the back. Blues Captain Doc warned his team to not get too pumped up. "Yes we had a wonderful start, but I must admit all the holes we crossed out were the fairly tame ones. I urged the boys to stay focused and not let up. Still a long way to go." Tuesday Regular Play Butch tries to explain his recent absence to Randy and Tom. Rodney earns Medalist with a smoking +7. His birdies on 4 and 6 leads team to a victory on the Front. Randy gets his 2nd CTP in May. Bob's +5 and Allen's +4 leads their team to wins on the Back and Front making them the big winner on the day. Glen eagles 13 along with a bird on 10.

Memorial Day 2023

This was sent to me by our good friend Deano and I must say I really felt the message and I thank him so much for sending it. I had surveyed some of our group in hopes of acknowledging their service today but this post is exactly correct. I will wait till November for that as we take this day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Last year I told the rather sad story of my Memorial Day in 1964. Today I will share what I hope is a more feel-good story, at least it is for me. As I said last year, my father served in the Pacific Theater for the Naval Air Corps in World War II, Marine Air Corps in Korea, and stayed in the Marines after Korea being stationed in Hawaii. I posted several of his still pictures last year, but he also carried a movie camera in Korea and Hawaii. A couple of years ago, my brother tried to transfer these old movie reels to a DVD. Being that these reels were between 65 and 70 years old at the time, only 17 minutes of video were able to be transferred.

Gopher Celebration A Success Tuesday May 23 The Gopher Bingo team celebrated their placement in the Bud's Boys Hall of Fame for winning the first ever 'Official' Birdie Bingo Challenge on Tuesday.  They took their hard-earned winnings and treated those attending Tuesday with beverages and Kimbeland appetizers until all were sated (except for Floyd, Doc, and Westy who were a little late to the table). Many thanks to Glen, Raymond, Scott, and Leroy for organizing and carrying out this much appreciated party. Special thanks to Bill and Mikey, their 2 teammates not attending, for donating their winnings for booze and fried foods without their knowledge. Remember Friday is last day to sign up for Bingo II, birdie season opens on Tuesday 5-30. No limit on how many you bag. Pre-party golf On the course, 19 BB's assembled on the first tee. Medalist Floyd's +6 and teammate John's +3 went for naught in a highly competitive round today. Rick's +5 led his team to a tie
